At the time when mobile phones were new in the market and dialing long distance was expensive, cell phone companies came up with a calling card feature so that you can dial long distance using a calling card, I used to have a Nokia 8260 which I LOVED IT, it was a small phone and most importantly it had the calling card feature. I would have used this phone till date if it had the bluetooth feature.
But as things advanced mobile phones became more high tech. and started to have more features like bluetooth, which again is something that I liked cause I dont have to connect a wired headset everytime I drive (it is illegal now in most places to talk on the phone while driving witout using a handsfree).
As more and more people started to use mobile phones, the long distance call charges started to drop and eventually calling long distance did not cost anything extra, that made using Calling card to make long distance calls useless. There was no need now to have a calling card feature, so the phone companies got rid of this feature in newer phone models.
Now the reason I am writing all this is because I am in the US and frequently need to call my home back in India, phone companies totally forgot about me and lot of others like me who still need to call different international numbers using calling cards, and I find it a pain to assign a speed dial number to calling cards cause I will have to remember the speed dial number and even then what if I need to call someone else on my phonebook?
So, here it is, if you have a newer blackberry phone, this feature should work, I know for sure it works on 8320 cause that is the phone I am using.
